When defining appropriate strategies for capturing unstable media works (or electronic artworks), we need to understand the associated practice of electronic art, as it becomes manifest through the activity of different institutions and initiatives. Which organizations are active in the field of electronic art, in its documentation and preservation? Which preservation initiatives already exist in this field, and which strategies do they apply? By making an inventory of relevant, existing initiatives and trajectories, it becomes possible to outline and position the specific problematic preservation issues that are covered in the research project Capturing Unstable Media.
