Heidi Specker
Heidi Specker (DE) is a photographer.
Heidi Specker studied photography at the University of Applied Sciences, Bielefeld and then at the Hochschule für Buchkunst und Grafik in Leipzig. Her work has been shown in several exhibitions, including at the Art Museum of Wolfsburg and ZKM in Karlsruhe. She lives and works in Berlin.
Heidi Specker's photographs, such as the Speckergruppen Bildings, are dedicated to modern architecture its constituents. In an archive-like manner, she takes pictures of modernist buildings, mainly throughout Berlin, assembling them to overviews of stereotype facades and structures. In her works she reverses the processes of architecture: as opposed to starting with a design in order to develop a model for a building, she takes an existing building as a starting point and simplifies it to arrive at a model-like object.
