Jaanis Garancs (also: Jānis Garančs) is a media artist and consultant in areas of interactive installations, multi-media performance, creative projects with Virtual Reality and Internet. He received the Masters in Audiovisual Media degree in 2003 from the Academy of Media Arts (KHM), Cologne, Germany. He has been a co-founder of the creative teams of the E-Lab and RIXC (both in Riga, since 1996). Jaanis Garancs' fields of work focus on interactive multimedia, Virtual Reality, installations, computer graphics & animation, video, sound, network programming.

Education: 2000-2002: Academy of Media Arts (KHM), Cologne, Germany 1999-2000. Academy of Arts, Hamburg (HfbK), Germany. 1995-1999. The Royal College of Fine Art (KKH), Stockholm, Sweden. 1992-1995. Latvian Academy of Art, Riga.
Activities within studies (1995-1999): Collaborative project between Ericsson MediaLab and KKH: experimental interface proposals/research for future 'Media-On-Demand' systems in hight bandwidth conditions. Participation in the Virtual Experimental Modern Museum project - VEMM (in progress) - collaboration with KKH, Moderna Museet, and The Royal Technical College (KTH.)
Activities beyond studies: Co-founder(1996) and Board-Member of the Riga Electronic Media & Art Centre: Re-LAB Co-founder (2000) of the Riga Centre for New Media Culture: RIXC Running of the X-I.NET - server cluster for various projects and mailing lists. Assistance for the name.space project (alternative Internet domain name system). Baltic Interface Net (BIN) project.
