Lynn Hershman (US) is an artist who pioneered interactive computer and net-based media art.

Lynn Hershman Leeson has worked extensively in photography, video, film, installation and pioneered interactive computer and net-based media art.

Her groundbreaking work has earned her numerous international awards, including a tribute and retrospective from the SF Film Festival (1994), ZKM/Siemens Media Art Award (1995), Sundance Institute Screenwriting Fellowship (1998), Golden Nica from Ars Electronica in Interactive Arts (for Difference Engince#3, 1999), the World Technology Network Award for Innovation in the Visual Arts (2002), the Award for Positive Innovations in Media from the Digital Media and Arts Association (2005). She also received a National Endowment for the Arts grant for her documentary film on the history of feminist art.

Her first feature film Conceiving Ada (1997), and her second feature Teknolust (2002), received several prizes.

Leeson's artwork has been exhibited in over 200 major art institutions, and is held in numerous collections, including the MOMA, National Gallery of Canada, DG Bank, Walker Art Center, ZKM, William Lehmbruch Museum, University Art Museum (Berkeley) and the Hess Collection. Between 2006 and 2008, The Henry Art Gallery in Seattle curated a major touring retrospective, Hershmanlandia.

She is Professor Emeritus a the University of California, and an A.D. White Professor-at-Large at Cornell University.

She is the editor of Clicking In: Hot Links to a Digital Culture (1996), and a monograph with DVD was published in 2005: The Art and Films of Lynn Hershman Leeson: Secret Agents, Private I.

Lynn Hershman Leeson heeft opleidingen gevolgd op het gebied van educatie, museumbeleid en beeldende kunst en doceert momenteel Digitale Kunst aan de Universiteit van Californië. Ze werkt met uiteenlopende media, zoals fotografie, video, film, installaties en het internet en heeft reeds verschillende prijzen gewonnen voor haar werk.
Hershman experimenteerde in de jaren '70 van de vorige eeuw al met interactieve kunst. Een terugkerend thema in haar werk is de wijze waarop mensen fantasieën beleven die door media worden bewerkstelligd.

In 1994 was zij de eerste vrouw aan wie een retrospectief werd gewijd gedurdende het Internationale Filmfestival van San Francisco. Een jaar later ontving zij, samen met Peter Greenaway, de Vasulka's en Jean Baudrillard, de prestigieuze Siemens Mediaprijs en werd ze "the most influential woman working in new media" genoemd. Haar werk is over hele wereld tentoongeteld en maakt deel uit van de collecties van verschillende musea. Ze is eveneens auteur van Clicking In: Hotlinks to a Digital Culture (1996).
