May Heek

May Heek is an artist who lives and works in London and Amsterdam.

May Heek is an artist looking at abstractions as a possible tool to question and widen the meaning of existing knowledge. How do we look at image sources and the constantly changing conditions of the digital medium? Where does the edge of knowing and un-knowing begin? By scrutinizing the purpose of representation, the work approaches new ways of seeing and detachment of connotation, that could potentially become systems for (non)physical communication and reflexivity. In print, video and light based installations the work explores surface qualities, sensory experiences and indirect ways of perceiving images through reflectiveness. May Heek completed her MFA Fine Art Media at Slade School of Fine Art, UCL, London (2015). She participated in the one-year residency programme Photo Global at SVA in New York and holds a BFA from the ArtEZ University of the Arts Arnhem. Currently she is based in Amsterdam and London.
