In Woodworms, Microphone, Sound System, worms eat their way through a piece of wood lying on the floor of a closed room. Their eating is amplified, creating an immersive sound. The work audifies the worms’ digging of a network of tunnels through the wood, a process invisible to the audience. Temperature, humidity and other environmental qualities determine how the creatures perform and shape the piece.

Zimoun builds architecturally minded sound platforms using simple, functional components. His installations incorporate commonplace industrial objects, exploring mechanical rhythm and flow in prepared systems. In an obsessive display of simple, functional materials, the works articulate a tension between the orderly patterns of modernism and the chaotic forces of life. The acoustic hum of natural phenomena in Zimoun’s reverberates effortlessly minimalist constructions, carrying an emotional depth.
