Michel van Dartel’s presentation:
A New Skin for Cyborgs
Fashion and biology have dramatically changed the face of artistic research in wearable technology. While the field used to be dominated by a science-fiction-style cyborg ideal of humans augmented with bulky electronics, nowadays the electronics used in wearable technology art are hardly visible, if at all. In contemporary artistic research, wearable technology is seamlessly integrated into our clothing and implanted under our skin. Yet Van Dartel will show, using classic and recent examples from the V2_ context and beyond, that the cyborg ideal in contemporary wearable technology is still very much alive.
