Join us for an evening exploring the extreme scenario of outer space: containing our visions, dreams, hopes, and nightmares for the future of space exploration, travel, and living.

20:00 to 22:00
location: V2_ Institute for the Unstable Media Eendrachtsstraat 10, 3012 XL, Rotterdam

Our speakers for the evening of December 12 will take us on a journey through designing disasters to test astronauts to inner space as extreme scenario, from Afrofuturism to the darkest visions of where our ventures into the heavens can take us. The evening will also feature the unveiling of a new art commission with a talk by the artists, Paper Moon by Ilona Gaynor and Craig Sinnamon. Paper Moon explores the emerging legal definitions and loopholes of space. Common Law (that is to say earth's common law) has no legal definition for what ‘Outer Space’ actually means, what it is, and where it is. The problem we face with such literal unmarked territory is the emergent field of ‘Space Law’ becomes genuinely speculative.

Featuring: Ilona Gaynor & Craig Sinnamon | Nelly Ben Hayoun | Charl Landvreugd

Featuring also a new eBook release: Blowup Reader 8: Outer Space as Extreme Scenario with contributions by Benedict Singleton, Regina Peldszus, Geert Lovink & Kodwo Eshun, Angelo Vermeulen, and more.

This event, eBook, and art commission are part of V2_Lab's ongoing research into the theme of Innovation in Extreme Scenarios.
