Collaborative Culture

Interdisciplinarity in current arts practice has several aspects. One of them is the medium: digitized mediums or modalities such as sound, image, text, touch and gesture meld together. Another one is the collaboration between disciplines, including the sciences, engineering, technology, interdisciplinary arts and critical theory. The Collaborative Culture master class will analyse will analyse these two aspects in their relationship with one another and with the emergent aesthetics within the culture of online communities. Sher Doruff, a digital artist, will guide ten participants. This master class is part of a series of four master classes, called Interfacing Realities. They focus on new concepts for information management in general, and the usage and creation of databases and archives in contemporary art practices in particular.
Participants of this master class are Sharon Daniel (USA), Michelle Teran (CDN), Sara Diamond (CDN), Anne Nigten (NL) and Just van den Broecke (NL).
This master class is assisted by Scott Delahunta and the developers of the KeyWorx project at Waag Society: Niels Bogaards, Just van den Broecke, Tom Demeyer, Fokke de Jong and Lodewijk Loos.
Interfacing Realities is a Culture 2000 project initiated by V2_ and realized in collaboration with EncArt. EncArt (European Network for Cyber Arts) is a longterm collaboration between the ZKM in Karlsruhe, Ars Electronica in Linz, C3 in Budapest and V2_ in Rotterdam that started in 1997.

Interdisciplinariteit speelt in de hedendaagse kunstpraktijk
een rol op verschillende niveaus, waaronder dat van het
medium: verschillende (gedigitaliseerde) media of aspecten
als geluid, beeld, tekst, aanraking en gebaar komen samen.
Een ander niveau is dat van de samenwerking tussen verschillende
disciplines op de gebieden van wetenschap, technologie,
de kunsten en kritische theorie.
In de masterclass
Collaborative Culture worden beide niveaus in hun
onderlinge samenhang geanalyseerd en in relatie tot de zich
ontwikkelende esthetiek binnen de cultuur van on-linegemeenschappen.
Sher Doruff, een digitale kunstenaar, zal tien deelnemers
begeleiden. Deze masterclass is er een uit een reeks van
vier die onder de noemer Interfacing Realities
ingaan op nieuwe ideeën over informatiebeheer in het algemeen
en op het gebruiken en creëren van databases en archieven
in de hedendaagse kunstpraktijk in het bijzonder.
Interfacing Realities is een project binnen het Europese subsidieprogramma Cultuur 2000 en wordt op initiatief van V2_ verwezenlijkt in samenwerking met EncArt. EncArt (European Network for Cyber Arts) is een op de lange termijn gericht samenwerkingsverband tussen het ZKM in Karlsruhe (D), Ars Electronica in Linz (A), C3 in Boedapest (H) en V2_ in Rotterdam (NL), dat in 1997 van start is gegaan.
