The festival of the Wereld the Witte Kwartier (WWWk) is a city festival for cutting edge art and culture, programmed by the art institutes in the neighbourhood of the Witte de Withstreet in Rotterdam. The festival opens the cultural season of Rotterdam. For three full days the street will brim with culture, arts and other activities. Driven by artistic curiosity and a desire for renewal the festival connects creative acts and exhibitions with the residents, the restaurants, café's and stores in and around the Witte de Withstreet.
There is no place in Rotterdam so diverse, full of liveliness, talent and creativity, all gathered together in one block.
In 2013 the festival WWWk is programmed by
Kunstblock, a cooperation of cultural initiatives in the
Witte de Withstreet. Showroom MAMA, TENT, V2_, Centrum Beeldende Kunst
Rotterdam, Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art and WORM are united in one foundation to make the creative profile of this neighbourhood more visible.
On Friday night the festival will open with a spectacular light work by Joris Strijbos. All residents are welcome on the 'borrel' prior to the opening. On Saturday there's art and culture on the menu: all initiatives organise short lectures and presentations by todays trendsetting artists. The visitors can develop their cultural competencies and interest in several workshops. The day will finish with a special edition of 'De Derde Dinsdag', with previews of the attractions of the coming cultural season. On Sunday friends, family and residents of the neighbourhood can take part in the Oonalympics, a programme of Showroom MAMA, with a street ful of alternative and selfmade games.
Kunstblock radio is the connecting thread during the three days, a radio station as a podium, which will connect the various events and projects.
Expect three days full of arts, culture, music, liveliness and wonderment.
