The exhibition of David and Ulrike Gabriel showed the installation Memory Arena, an interactive environment in which several users were simultaneously connected through the same virtual space. Large image projections and a complex sound environment offered the visitor a rich audio-visual experience. Interacting through different interfaces for text, image and gestural manipulation, the users created and positioned attractors in the shared virtual space and connected them to clusters of meanings. These memory phantoms - autonomous audio-visual-textual objects - behaved in response to the user's participation and behavior, continuously generating new and unpredictable shapes and configurations.

Memory Arena was an artist-in-residence project at V2_Lab (1999).

This exhibition was part of Kunst NRW.NL - a cultural exchange project between Nordrhein-Westfalen and the Netherlands.
