In the framework of the Open Set Summer School 2016 and its theme Memories of the Future, designers Mike Thompson (USA), Susana Cámara Leret (ES) and researcher Dr. Alexandre Motta will lead a one-day long workshop ‘A Sense of What’s to Come’.

The experimental, critical art/design research practice Thought Collider comprises the work of Mike Thompson (US) and Susana Cámara Leret (ES). Their projects focus on the exploration of the meanings and values that can be derived from alternative ways of experiencing built and mediated environments, motivated by emerging technologies. Aside from self-initiated projects they develop consultancy work for industry and academia to activate novel in- sights and innovation. Regular collaborators include Waag Society, Wageningen University, Museum Boijmans van Beuningen and MU Eindhoven.

Alexandre Motta (NL) is a research scientist in Immunology at Unilever R&D in Vlaardingen (Nederland). He works as a fundamental researcher since more than 15 years. He holds Post-doc degree in Immunology (allergic asthma) in UMC Groningen (Nederland), and PhD in immunology (respiratory allergy) at Pierre et Marie Curie Paris University. He collaborates with artists and designers on various projects at the border between art and science,

Open Set 2016

The sixth edition of Open Set will take place from 24.07 to 06.08.2016, a two-week long series of workshops, public interventions and lectures. The event aims to promote and enhance the social value of design by facilitating debates around the chosen theme from a rich diversity of cross-disciplinary perspectives and socially engaged cultural practices. 

Open Set is being hosted by Kunstblock, a Rotterdam based foundation set up by five cultural institutions on the Witte de Withstraat. The various workshops and presentations of the Summer School will take place in different Kunstblock affiliated locations.

Open Set 2016 is made possible by the generous support of Creative Industries Fund NL and the public symposium is organized in collaboration with the Institute of Network Cultures.
