Opening V2_Lab

In May 1998, Dutch Secretary of Culture, Aad Nuis, opened the V2_Lab, an international and interdisciplinary medialab that focuses on research and production in the arts and culture, open to education, trade and industry. V2_Lab cooperates with European media labs in the ENCART-network: ZKM (Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie) in Karlsruhe, AEC (Ars Electronica Centrum) in Linz, C3 (Soros Foundation) in Budapest and several other partners.
During the opening event, several projects were presented, including Happy Doomsday! by Cãlin Dan, the first artist-in-residence at the V2_Lab. The project was developed in collaboration between V2_Lab and Ars Electronica Center.
V2_Lab has been founded with the financial aid of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ministry of Education, Culture and Science, the department of Cultural Affairs of Rotterdam and the Prins Bernhard Foundation.
