The body and its function in the information society was, in 1997, the main subject of the artists of Gallery 21. They raised questions on what is happening to the body when we tend to give ever more attention to digital information and what is happening to our perception of reality when that what is considered 'reality' takes place inside the computer, on screens or in virtual spaces.

The performance by Alla Mitrofanova and this symposium were about the utopian concept of a 'post-information society', about a society that no longer deals with information as unified and complete. An interesting aspect of this subject was the Dutch context, a country where people are extremely optimistic about the information society.
