On the evening of Saturday, April 16, 1994, the French researcher and theorist Louis Bec held a lecture with examples of artificial life research by scientists and artists. Louis Bec himself did research, for the French ministry of culture, about the relations between biological life, artificial life and the arts. His lecture was entitled Geknoei met het Kunstmatig Leven (or: Tampering with Artificial Life).
