An evening with Mark Dery (US) and Marcel Möring (NL), and the screening of "Pandaemonium" by John Wyver/Illuminations.

Wiretap 3.05 - Escape Velocity

Wiretap 3.05: Mark Dery

11
Jun 1997
19:30 to 22:30
location: Zaal de Unie, Mauritsweg 34, Rotterdam

During this Wiretap, Mark Dery gave a lecture about his book Escape Velocity (1996). The book describes the fascinating confrontation of man and machine and provides a broad analysis of the social, aesthetic and religious forces behind the phenomenon of cyberculture. A Dutch translation of Escape Velocity was published in October 1996 by Uitgeverij de Prom.

Before Mark Dery's lecture, the video Pandaemonium by John Wyver (Illuminations, UK) was shown. The video showcases several aspects of machinic art; various artists (Mark Pauline / Survival Research Laboratories, Chico MacMurtrie and Stelarc) present their work.

A discussion between Mark Dery and Marcel Möring concluded the evening.
