Piem Wirtz interviewed
Digital media artist-designer, theorist and curator Valérie Lamontagne — presently doing a 4 month PhD stage on "Performativity, Materiality and Laboratory Practices in Artistic Wearables" at V2_ — recently interviewed V2_Lab’s Piem Wirtz, for Fashioning Technology.

Trained as an Industrial Design Engineer, active as a dancer with the group Dattah and Project Manager in charge of wearables, Piem’s first involvement with wearables was Di Mainstone’s Sharewear (2008) and she has ever since been a wearables enthusiast. The Fashioning Technology interview charts V2_Lab’s long standing involvement with wearables from Stelarc’s unpolished Ping Body at the DEAF96 festival to the bio-couture Fleshing Out Test_Lab event to the more recent Intimacy (2009-2010) project by Daan Roosegaarde and Anouk Wipprecht’s Pseudomorphs (2010). Piem discusses the impact of collaboration between V2_ developers and artists; the design process involved in wearables production; presentation and public considerations when working with wearables and the inevitable role of the body and performance in wearable technology.
