Premsela Forum: Evolving Excellence

Premsela Dutch Platform for Design and Fashion has invited V2_Lab’s Piem Wirtz to speak at the Premsela Forum: "Evolving Excellence" on Friday April 23 at the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag.

The forum will address the question of whether the original haute couture notion of quality is still relevant in contemporary Dutch fashion culture.

According to Premsela’s website, “Taking haute couture history as a starting point, we will look at the contemporary cultural meaning of quality in the Netherlands. Current developments like the democratization of design, globalization, concern for sustainability and economic recession are leading to a new focus on the notion of quality. What does this mean for the concept in the Netherlands, and how will it translate for Dutch fashion culture?”

Appearing on a panel with a couturier, a cultural historian, a designer and a chef, Piem Wirtz will speak on the basis of her experience as the V2_Lab’s wearable technology project manager. Since V2_’s 2006 Test_Lab program Fleshing Out, the Lab has made a name for itself in the area of wearable technology – the area where high tech and clothing intersect. Recent highlights have been Melissa Coleman's Media Vintage series and Studio Roosegaarde and Maartje Dijkstra’s Intimacy, whose sequels, Intimacy Black and Intimacy Lotus, are currently in development. Other highlights have included the international expert meetings organized by V2_Lab over the past year. In order to raise the wearables to a higher level, V2_Lab has sought to make contact with the world of fashion. The Premsela Forum seems to be a significant step in that direction, "haute couture" or otherwise.
