Soundpiece

Soundpiece is an installation that serves as an open audio stage. It's consisting of 32 small 100-watt speakers set in a grid under the metal surface of the Rotterdam square Schouwburgplein.

Soundpiece

Soundpiece

V2_ developed the installation in 2006 with Jasper Niens, Kamiel Verschuren and Thijs Ewalts for the Poetry International Festival. The installation will now serve as an open audio stage, receiving a second lease on life. The grid, which will surprise passersby on Schouwburgplein with subtle sounds emanating from the ground, is open to a range of uses – musical compositions, works of sound art, poems, perhaps even plays. Sound can be prerecorded, but live audio streaming is also possible.

Soundpiece will feature its own programming as well as material linked to events and festivals. The Soundpiece program will be announced at soundpiece.nl. The nearly 100- square-foot installation is located on the north side of the fountains. Individuals and organizations wishing to contribute material for Soundpiece should contact the project’s initiator,   David Dooghe, who is managing the the installation on behalf of Rotterdam Festivals.

Follow Soundpiece on facebook for the latest updates.
