Biojewellery

Designing Rings with Bio-engineered Bone Tissue, by Tobie Kerridge.

Biojewellery is a collaborative research project focused on designing wedding or partnership rings for couples. The rings combine precious metals with bioengineered bone tissue cultured from cells donated by the couples.

The objective of Biojewellery is to use design methods to stage a public debate about our understanding and expectations of innovation in science and technology. What role can design play in unpacking the layers of legislation, desire, authority and concern which circulate around new technology?

The presentation pulls together a range of documentation from this two year research project, including engineering and biological processes, development and design of the rings, and some background on the couples.
