Barbara Baert

Barbara Baert is Professor in Medieval Art, Iconology and Historiography at the KU Leuven.

Baert's work links knowledge and questions from the history of ideas, cultural anthropology and philosophy, and shows great sensitivity to cultural archetypes and their symptoms in the visual arts. Barbara Baert was honored with several awards, among which the most prestigious is the Francqui Prize for Human Sciences in 2016. She was invited as a guest professor at numerous universities in Europe, Japan and the United States.
