Huib Emmer

Huib Emmer (NL) is a composer-performer.

Rhythm guitarist Huib Emmer studied composition with Jan van Vlijmen and Peter Schat at the Royal Conservatory, The Hague. On graduating, he was awarded the Composition Prize. From 1976 to 1986 he played bass guitar in Hoketus. He has been a member of LOOS since 1988.

As a composer, Huib Emmer has written music for soloists such as the pianist Gerard Bouwhuis and the baritone Charles van Tassel, and for many orchestras including the Netherlands Wind Ensemble, the Xenakis Ensemble, the Maarten Altena Quartet and the Sofia Radio Symphony Orchestra of Bulgaria.

In 1986 his composition Between Two Worlds, written in collaboration with Gilius van Bergeijk, was performed by the Amsterdam Concertgebouworkest. In 1990, his opera Betlehem Hospital: William Blake in Hell was performed by the theatre company Hollandia. As well as working with LOOS, Emmer currently tours with his group The Good People.
