Jeannette Pols

Jeannette Pols is the Socrates Professor in the anthropology department at the University of Amsterdam

Pols works with the medical ethics section at Amsterdam University Medical Centers and is a member of the Dutch Ministry of Health’s Council for Health and Society. Her research and teaching takes place at the crossroads of the humanities and the social sciences signified by the term “empirical ethics.” Using an empirical ethics approach, she studies how “the good” emerges in different forms in care practices, in particular in relation to the introduction of new technologies. She is the author of Care at a Distance: On the Closeness of Technology and a co-editor of Care in Practice: On Tinkering in Clinics, Homes and Farms.
