Tijmen Wisman

Tijmen Wisman (NL) is a privacy-lawyer.

Tijmen Wisman obtained his law degree at the Utrecht University in 2007. He wrote his thesis on the use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) in retail. The central question of his thesis was if customers were forced to surf along in the Internet of Things (IoT). After graduation he started working for the RFID Platform the Netherlands. In this period he visited Brussels on several occasions (RACE), where he was inspired for the research he currently performs at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. At first the research focused on a 'right to silence' in the IoT. Gradually the focus shifted to the foreseeable impact of the IoT on the respect for the private sphere in the home and how the current legal framework should apply, so that privacy and the Internet of Things can coexist.
