A Place Where People Gather

A Place Where People Gather is a work by Ryan Cherewaty developed during a V2_+Museu Zer0 residency in 2019.

A Place Where People Gather is a virtual reality experience of digital ecology. It is an exploration using technology as a non-human agent in a participatory virtual space where each user can build on the previous users contribution to the environment. The non-human agent is a river of particles, where the user can choose to disrupt the flow or augment it for the next user. When a person stands in the flow or touches the particles, they become like a rock that changes the flow of water. The flow of particles continues to transform in real time due to the interaction of people. Previous visual states can never be replicated, and will never reoccur.
