Droog Design writes:

'The Tickle Salon is a robot that is able to stroke with indefatigable attention. The hanging robot gently strokes the skin, and along the way composes a detailed profile of the body through Artificial Intelligence. Based on this, it can carry out sensitive movements aiming for variation, unpredictability and flexibility. People love to be caressed, preferably by a beloved person. But when a person strokes another person’s body, eventually fatigue occurs in the movement and the motivation. Variation, attention and unpredictability are important aspects for an enjoyable stroking sensation, and are the main reason for developing the Tickle Salon.

In the current pandemic, the Tickle Salon has got new significance. At this time, when touch is discouraged, the robot takes over.

Artist duo Erwin Driessens and Maria Verstappen have been working together since 1990. After their studies at the Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Maastricht and the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam, they worked on the development of a versatile body of work existing of objects, machines and software.'
