V2_ part of Network for the Archiving of Design and Digital Culture

Together with several other organisations V2_ has been involved in the process of setting-up a network with the aim of taking care of the archiving of design and digital culture. On the 17th of December 2020 this network, NADD, will be officially launched.

Design is all around us. Designers and players in digital culture have made a great contribution to the experience of beauty, criticism, well-being and also to identifying and solving social issues. Therefore, in these rapidly changing times, it is essential to be able to look back as well as forward to what has been conceived, criticised and designed before.

The Network Archives for Design and Digital Culture (NADD) is a collaboration focusing on the heritage of Dutch design and digital culture. NADD makes the relationship between design and social innovation visible and aims to demonstrate that the archiving and development of the heritage of design and digital cultural is of vital importance to society.

Design and digital culture contribute significantly to the way in which  ever-changing ideas about  society are expressed. With NADD, the important heritage of these sectors must be safeguarded for the future, made accessible in order to contribute to the development of design disciplines. Because the archives are located in numerous places, we will work together within a network. By combining the strength and knowledge of heritage institutions, museums, educational and cultural institutions, knowledge institutes, creators, designers, governments and other partners, the various archives can be better put on the map.

Mission statement

NADD aspires to be an accessible memory of design and digital culture and a dynamic place for knowledge sharing. The mission of the network is to play a connecting role in societal innovation and transition issues and simply to inspire. To this end, the current and future heritage of design and digital culture should be visible, usable and sustainable for professionals, researchers, education and the general public.

What are we going to do?
Characteristic of NADD's working method is that tracing, opening up, storing, revealing and researching archive material is approached from a network structure. The individual strength of all partners within the network is a prerequisite for this.

Our motto is therefore: 'centrally where necessary and decentrally where possible'.

NADD is working on three ambitions, which simultaneously sharpen, complement and inspire each other:

– The accessibility and usability of the archives;
– a new look at the Dutch design and digital cultural heritage;
– the future resilience of the heritage
