From February until April 2010, Brussels-based artist Herman Asselberghs will work in residence at the V2_Lab to develop a new video work under the working title Inside out: Exhibiting the laptop. The project will consist of an investigation into both the origin as well as the final destination of a laptop’s components, revealing diverse social, cultural, economic, technological and philosophical issues related to this familiar consumer object. The outcome of this investigation will serve as a basis for a video installation addressing the gap between knowledge and action; for computers allow us to access information on the origins and destination of their internal components, while exactly that information often makes us frown.
