location: Ars Electronica Center, Linz, Austria

DAMPF research lab #1 took place 7-11 September 2003 in the context of the Ars Electronica Festival in Linz and in collaboration with the Futurelab's Pixelspaces Conference focusing on the relation between the programmable interface and an interactive physical environment. A number of DAMPF Lab research lines were pursued within this theme; e.g. bodies normal, trained and virtuosic; hacking social behaviour; dramaturgy for the interactive stage. The research lab at Ars Electronica organised a series of breakfast meetings to further develop and fine tune research questions with the following artists selected from the larger Festival programme: Casey Reas, Christa Sommerer and Laurent Mignonneau, Marie Sester, Scott Snibbe, Golan Levin and Zach Lieberman.

Conference Pixelspaces - DAMPF

Pixelspaces has developed into a zone for playful interaction among art and media labs from all over the world. Discussions will focus on the new terms of interactivity in which the interface is no longer understood as a navigational device, but rather as a physical programming environment. DAMPF (Dance and Media Performance Fusions) is an interdisciplinary project dedicated to the nurturing and realization of new forms of artistic expression through the integration of interactive technologies into the performing arts. V2_Lab is one of the collaborating partners of DAMPF. The project Kurort will be presented by choreographer Angelika Oei. Oei and V2_Lab are working on the creation of a series of prototypes heading towards the production of a large scale performance /interactive media installation work.
