Film program, part of DEAF94.
The Generated Nature Computer Animation Showcase, which was compiled in cooperation with Wim van der Plas (ISEA), could be divided in a number of categories. The scientific visualizations of - often dynamic - natural processes where for example turbulence in Earth's atmosphere is reproduced in order to gain a better understanding of the causes and effects of down bursts. There were several examples of human and animal motion simulation and a number of productions where an extreme point of view was taken by the virtual camera as in for example the "Cell Quakes" animation and, on a more abstract level, in Jules Bister's oeuvre. The pieces by Karl Sims and William Latham, who both used knowledge gained from artificial life research to visualize their often vertiginous hallucinations, were also an important part of the program.
