V2_Community Invites: Effective Altruism Rotterdam

You are invited to a lively discussion on the subjects of cause prioritisation and career choice. If you want to do good (that's what Effective Altruism promotes), you still need to know what the best starting point is. Together we will try to find out.

May 2018
17:00 to 20:00
location: V2_Lab for the Unstable Media, Eendrachtsstraat 10 Rotterdam

In addition to our informal monthly Effective Altruism MeetUps we will hold reading and discussion meetings every two months. During these meetings we will read and discuss articles or books that are about Effective Altruism or topics that are related to it. Effective Altruism consists in the honest and impartial attempt to find out how to do the most amount of good with our available time and resources by applying rational reasoning, data and scientific evidence. Effective Altruism covers a lot of different themes and domains that concern effectively helping others, be it in the short-term or the longer run. If you want to dive deeper into the question on doing good better, you're more than welcome to join these bimonthly meetings.
For the first meetings we will look into cause prioritisation and career choice. What causes in the world are most pressing? Which are most dire? And how can you use your career to do the most good as possible? In an attempt to adress these questions, the organisation 80.000 hours does research and advices on with what careers you can do the most good. During the first meeting we will discuss a part of their career advice, namely the one on world's most pressing problems and how to use your career in order to work on them. See a link for the article below.

V2_ launched the V2_Community initiative in order to connect the many artists, hackers, tinkerers, inventors and philosophers in V2_'s network and see how V2_ can provide a platform to grow, experiment, prototype and share work. If you are interested in taking part get in touch with Alex Falk, our community catalyst (alex.falk@v2.nl)
