Join us at V2_Lab for the Unstable Media between the 26-28th of June for a three-day workshop, dedicated to exploring how you can become a ‘decision-making’ citizen, capable of prototyping projects, interventions and policies, to enhance livability and inclusivity in Rotterdam.

Cities and citizens in the Netherlands are increasingly becoming ‘smarter’. We build our neighborhoods using 3Dprinters, recycle our domestic plastic waste, using emerging technologies, cycle our intelligent bikes on recycled lanes, and wear ‘smart’ watches that connect us to the world. However Smart Cities do not automatically equal Livable Cities. Nor does it equal Inclusive Cities. Increased inequalities are widespread amongst people living in the same society. Poverty is not uncommon across the Netherlands, and the welcoming of newcomers created new demands for cultural integration in cities and communities. People from socio-economically marginalized or refugee backgrounds, who do not have access to ‘Smart-City’ projects, products and services, are also excluded from experiencing cities and societies as Livable and Inclusive. Governmental authorities, cross-European

Councils, International Organizations and Technology Giants are working towards making Cities Smarter, advocating Global Sustainable Goals, envisioning innovative integration programs, and generating technology applications that connect us to the world. These processes though improving our world, their scale is often exclusive of the individual, of the neighborhood of the community.

Public Workshops

In recognition of this challenge, V2_Lab for the Unstable Media in collaboration with creative agency LATRA based in Lesvos-Greece host 3 public co-creation workshops inviting multidisciplinary creatives, socio-economically excluded communities, newcomers and youth, to produce cross-overs between architectural projects, spatial strategies and urban policies for future cities. The workshops will bring you together with architects, urbanists, designers, social thinkers and technologists, in group-engaging sessions, experiments, crossovers, networking and co-creation, aimed at empowering you to play an active part in shaping a Livable and Inclusive City.
